Allan Bruce Armstrong

Born November 26, 1940 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Allan Bruce Armstrong, beloved husband of Natalie Steele Armstrong, passed into peaceful slumber on April 6, 2018 in Port St. Lucie, Florida, after suffering a long illness.

The son of Allan and Helen (Chase) Armstrong, Bruce is the brother of Richard “Dick” Armstrong (Norma), half-brother to Diana Potter, the father of five children, Jane (Joseph) Hettich, Sarah (Robert) Stevens, Elizabeth “Beth” (IAN) Haric and Shawn (Julia) Armstrong, two step children, Aaron Lampi and Dr. Nicole (Michael) Clark, PhD and grandfather to eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one great step grandchild. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, one daughter, one step daughter and a step grandson.

Bruce was a 1962 graduate of the University of Southern California School of Business. Employed as an IBM senior consultant, working with Tier One large accounts as a programming manager, IT Director and senior developer, he was a much sought after speaker both nationally and internationally. His favorite consulting position was with Disney World. He was instrumental in bringing his project in on time and permitting the park to open as planned.

As a member of the USC marching band, Bruce played the tuba for four years, including marching in four Rose Bowl Game parades. He was a graduate of Army ROTC while attending USC. He served in the Massachusetts National Guard as a 2nd Lt. He was chosen by his National Guard Unit as one of four officers to act as an Honor Guard for the Massachusetts contingent in President Lyndon B. Johnson’s 1964 Inaugural Parade. Bruce carried the American Flag during the parade.

Bruce joined Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity while a student at USC. One of the largest fraternity’s in existence, Bruce was proud to be a continuing member.

Bruce was a Renaissance man. As an accomplished photographer, he won several awards in juried exhibitions for his photography work. Bruce was pure excellence in his stained-glass creations. In addition to the lasting and beautiful art he created, Bruce took every opportunity to expand his artistic loves by sharing his artistic knowledge and passion with both children and adults to learn and enjoy.

Bruce’s Scottish ancestry was very much a part of his life. He took great delight in wearing his Scottish Kilt in full regalia. He believed to honor the past was to make way for the future. He revered those who came before him, as those who come after him. He is adding one more to the count of the heavenly Armstrong clan helping God protect us left temporally on earth, until we make our place in Gods heavenly kingdom with him.

The strength in Bruce’s life has come from his belief in his God and his belief in his church. A birth member of the Episcopal Church, Bruce served in many positions, including senior and junior warden and lay hospital Chaplain.

There will be a Funeral Service for Bruce on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 4:00PM at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church located at 210 South Indian River Drive, Fort Pierce, FL. Interment to follow in the Memorial Garden. Reception to follow service.
