Carl Fogliano, 76, passed away peacefully, in the early morning of January 11, 2018, while in the care of Hospice in Martin Memorial Hospital North in Stuart, FL from Congestive Heart Failure.
Carl was born into a large Italian family from Copiague, NY. Carl was the third child to Salvatore and Eleanor Fogliano. Carl had an older brother Luke who passed away in 2003 and two sisters Benita Lawson and Lorraine Renault both of whom mourn his loss today.
Carl loved his family and enjoyed spending time with everyone. Carl had a special connection with everyone in his family and he went out of his way to be available and helpful to anyone who needed him.
Carl was an avid fisherman who loved going out on the water on the south shore of Long Island when he was younger. Carl had a wealth of knowledge when it came to fishing and when it came to harvesting shellfish and crabs. Carl enjoyed passing the fishing skills that he learned, over a lifetime of fishing, to his nieces, nephews, and friends.
Carl was a history teacher who taught at Brentwood High School on Long Island, NY for many years until he retired in 2000 right around the same time he moved to Florida. In addition to Carl’s passion for fishing, Carl also had a passion for higher education. After Carl retired and after earning three college degrees (associate, bachelors, and a masters) Carl decided to enroll in a doctorate program through Hofstra University on Long Island and in 2009 at the age of 68 Carl was awarded a doctorate degree in Philosophy.
Carl was also a talented artist. Throughout Carl’s life he painted many oil paintings. Some of these paintings Carl was able to sell at art exhibits. Carl was always able to see things in a different perspective than an average person.
Carl was an animal lover who cared deeply about his pets. Carl always had a dog or a cat or both. Shortly after Carl moved to Florida he adopted his cat Snowflake. Carl named her that because she’s a black cat with one white spot on her neck which looks like a snowflake. Happily, Snowflake is alive and doing quite well for a 16-year-old cat. Carl’s neighbor and close friend Danielle has agreed to allow Snowflake to move into her home and Snowflake couldn’t be happier or in a better place. Carl would be thrilled to know that Danielle is taking care of Snowflake. Danielle was a wonderful friend and an outstanding neighbor to Carl.
In addition to being survived by his two sisters (Benita and Lorraine), Carl is also survived by his girlfriend Pamela Ashley. Pam brought a lot of joy to Carl’s life and they both enjoyed traveling around the world together. Pam was a wonderful girl friend to Carl and Carl was very fortunate to have Pam.
Carl was a consistent figure in the lives of his nephew’s Leon and Christopher Renault. Both Leon and Christopher were very fortunate to have such a loving and caring Uncle who took them fishing, to the movies, out to dinner, and who covered for them when they misbehaved and were about to get scolded by their grandparent’s (Salvatore and Eleanor).
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Carl’s name to the Humane Society; The Humane Society of St. Lucie at P.O. Box 14199, Fort Pierce, Fl, 34979 or at
