James Trotter
Born in Troy, Alabama on August 14, 1937, Jim Trotter displayed his athletic prowess in high school playing track, football and basketball. In 1954, Jim joined the United States Army’s 82nd Airborne Division becoming a paratrooper. An uncle in Los Angeles was a huge fan of Roller Derby. The uncle’s favorite skater was Charlie O’Connell, who’d later skated memorable games against Trotter
Jim was trained and nurtured in the National Skating Derby, becoming one of the biggest names in the history of the sport. Colleagues often referred to him as ‘J.T.’ with great affection. Wherever Trotter appeared, wherever he skated, fans were sure to see one of the finest athletes who ever stepped on the track. After retiring from the sport, Jim drove a bus for many years in New Jersey. In 2000, Jim and wife Jackie relocated to Florida where he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, summers with his grand kids, family gatherings and smoking his cigars with Sargent Smoke. (Elvis Smith)
