John P. Murray

June 24, 1936 — August 20, 2022

John Peter Murray, 86, of Port Saint Lucie Fl died Saturday August 20th, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, he met Elaine Kelty, his wife of 59 years. He was a devoted family man and with Elaine raised their four children in Matawan, NJ. Upon graduation from Saint Peter's University in 1957, he went on to have a very successful 38-year career with Prudential Financial.

Early on he embarked on an extraordinary lifelong commitment to supporting education and charities while being an avid golfer and horseman too. John also served as Chair of both the Board of Trustees and Regents at Saint Peter's and provided a wealth of knowledge to the University from his well accomplished career. He was an amazing role model accomplishing much professionally while always putting his family, friends, and community first. John lived by the creed “Work hard, laugh a lot, don’t take yourself too seriously, help others, and don’t fret about anything where you can’t alter the outcome.” May this advice which served him so well over an incredible life well lived, continue to inspire us all.

He was predeceased in death by his wife, Elaine, brother William, brother Francis, sister Maureen (Michael) Leddy, & sister-in-law Barbara Kelty. John is survived by his children John Peter Murray Jr. of Hobe Sound, FL, Jane (John) Siegel of Jensen Beach, FL, Karen Dowd of Flemington, NJ, and Joseph Murray of Port St Lucie, FL; grandchildren Carlie Siegel of Chicago IL, Courtney (Kevin Clarkson (KC)) O’Brien of Jacksonville, FL, Nicole Dowd of Flemington, NJ; great grandson Clarkson O’Brien and great granddaughter Claire O’Brien. In addition, he is survived by his sisters Annette (Richard) Scott, Rita (Leo) Holleran, brother-in-law Jack (Antoinette) Kelty, sister- in- law Kathleen and Maureen Murray as well as many loving family members.

Forever in our hearts, the life of our beloved John Peter Murray will be celebrated in Florida and New Jersey at future dates and will be communicated to family and friends.
