Kathleen M. Cunniffe

Kathleen M. Cunniffe died on February 1, 2010 in Fort Pierce, Florida at 79 years old.

Born in New York, Kathleen has been a frequent visitor to Fort Pierce since 1981 when she purchased a home here for vacations and future retirement. A life-long US citizen, Kathleen was a resident of Colombia, South America.

Earning degrees in education, theology, and psychology from Marymount, Fordham, Notre Dame, and the University of Missouri, her life has been dedicated to Catholic education. Formerly a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary Congregation, she helped found the first Marymount in Bogota, Colombia in 1948. Since 1969, she has been the director of Marymount School in Barranquilla, Colombia. In 2007, Kathleen was invited to Bogota by President Alvaro Uribe who bestowed on her the honor of Colombian citizenship in recognition of her many years of dedication to the formation of Colombia’s youth.

Kathleen was preceded in death by both of her parents. Her only brother, Bernard J. Cunniffe, lives in Rocky Point, New York.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Marymount School in Barranquilla, Colombia at a later date.
