Albert J. “Bud” Lyons, 86, passed away August 22, 2024, in Fort Pierce, FL surrounded by his children.
Bud was born on May 30, 1938, in McCook, Nebraska. Throughout his life, he called many places home, including California, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Nevada, and South Carolina, before ultimately returning to Fort Pierce in 2017.
At the age of 17, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country for four years. His time in the Navy took him to Japan and the Philippines, fueling his lifelong passion for travel. Following his military service, Bud worked at Rocketdyne while studying fire science in Canoga Park, California, nestled in the San Fernando Valley. His dedication to public service led him to a career with the Ventura County Fire Department in California, where he retired as Captain.
Bud's love for adventure didn't stop with his retirement. He moved his family to Kentucky and embarked on a new career as a heavy equipment operator, first working as a bulldozer operator doing reclamation at strip mines before moving to Florida and working as a finish grader on golf courses along the East Coast. Whether in his trusty Toyota truck or his RV, Bud embraced the open road, often accompanied by his beloved dogs.
In his later years, Bud settled in Rogersville, Tennessee, to be closer to family. He had many passions that brought him joy, including college football, drag racing, UFC fights, boxing, and traveling. He also had a talent for woodworking and furniture refinishing. Bud had a soft spot for Chick-fil-A frosted coffee, and he was a dedicated member of the Tin Can Sailors. He also supported the A.S.P.C.A. as a donor for many years.
Bud's adventurous spirit, love for his dogs, and unwavering dedication to his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
