Albert Norman "Norm" Yates

Albert Norman Yates, 93, passed away on January 20, 2017 at Port St. Lucie Nursing and Restorative Care Center in Port St Lucie, Florida. He was born on June 6, 1923 in Princeton, New
Jersey to Albert and Hulda Yates.

Norm graduated from Princeton High School in 1941. After high school he was employed by Opinion Research Company in Princeton until 1943 when he entered into the U.S. Army to serve during World War II. After the war, Norm pursued his love of music and enjoyed a lifelong career as a professional musician as well as owning music stores in Trenton, New Jersey prior to moving to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1969.

Norm married Grace Florence Helsel in 1947 in Trenton, New Jersey. They were happily married for nearly 70 years and enjoyed first living in New Jersey, then moved to West Palm Beach, in 1969 and finally retired to Port St Lucie, Florida in 1988. Norm was an avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching his favorite professional sports teams play. He also loved painting, woodcarving, and reading his Bible. He was a member of the Port St Lucie Bible Church.

Norm is survived by his wife, Grace, of Port St Lucie, FL; his two sons: Norman R. Yates and wife Linda of Medina, OH/North Hutchinson Island, FL; Donald A. Yates and wife Nancy of Port St Lucie, FL; his sister Edith Mitchell and husband David of Mission Viejo, CA.; his four grandchildren: Jennifer Yates Pirtz (Jason); Alie Yates; Parker Yates; and Jonathan Yates (Emily); his great-grandchildren, Blake and Kennedy Pirtz.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 PM, Wednesday, January 25th , 2017 at Haisley Funeral Home located at 3015 Okeechobee Road in Fort Pierce, FL with Pastor Doug Buchanan officiating. A viewing will precede the service 4:00PM.

Memorial contributions may be made in Norm's memory to to the Alzheimer’s Association at ALZ.org. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Pastor Doug Buchanan and the staff of Port St. Lucie Nursing and Restorative Care Center.
