Alexander “Alec” J. Gialousis, age 96, of Port Saint Lucie, FL passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016. He was born in Lowell, MA on November 2, 1919. He lived in Lowell until relocating to Port Saint Lucie in 2014.
Alec was a WWII Army Veteran who served with the 811th Tank Destroyer Battalion, Reconnaissance Company – First Reconnaissance Platoon receiving the Bronze Star and Victory Medals for his combat efforts in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central European campaigns. After serving his country, Alec returned home to marry the love of his life, M.C. Simonne Vezina in 1946. They were happily married for 49 years until her passing in 1995.
During Alec’s early years, he was one of the top machine pressers in the city of Lowell. He then spent the remainder of his career working for the Government at the Watertown Arsenal (Army Materials and Mechanical Research Center) from where he retired in 1985.
Alec had a deep love of family, life and nature. His infectious laugh, sense of humor and positive attitude were like no other and will be missed by all. Alec always had a passion for, or as he would say, an “ear for” music. He could listen to a song once and had the ability to play it back on an instrument of his choosing or sing it all in perfect tune. He enjoyed listening to country music, especially The Highwaymen; and then of course there was his second love, Shania Twain. He was an avid, die-hard Red Sox fan. Even in his final days, his schedule revolved around game time. He enjoyed playing games socially; but whether it was horse shoes, cribbage, poker, or “pitchnut” his competitive side would surely shine through.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, M. C. Simonne (Vezina) Gialousis; a brother, James Gialousis; a sister, Marguerite Tsiros; and his parents George and Emma (St. Onge) Gialousis.
He is survived by his daughter Donna Lambert and husband Raymond of Lowell, MA; son Al Gialousis and wife MaryAnn of Port Saint Lucie, FL; Granddaughters Melanie Lally and husband Michael of East Greenwich, RI; Melissa Mistretta and husband Mark of Dracut, MA; Christine Gialousis and Angel Tejada of Manchester, NH; Grandson Michael Gialousis and wife Brynn of Edmond, OK and five great grandchildren; Hannah, Jordan, Yvan, Beckett & Mia along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to join in a graveside service to be held at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford, MA on Wednesday, September 7th at 10:30am.
