Alonzo Hogan “Geech,” a man of unwavering calm and deep familial love, passed into eternity on March 19, 2024, while surrounded by his adoring family. Born in Saint Lucie County on June 11, 1940, to Elma Wynn Hogan and David Hogan Sr. Alonzo’s life was a journey marked by quiet strength and a relaxed demeanor, punctuated by moments of playful sternness whenever the timing wasn’t quite right.
Geech, as he was fondly known, carried his easygoing nature through his formative years, into his time serving with the United States Army, and throughout his career as a longshoreman, from which he retired after years of dedicated service. His time in the military and at the docks was characterized by the same chill attitude he brought to every aspect of his life, though he was known to firmly insist on punctuality and order when necessary.
Preceded in death by his parents Elma & David Hogan; siblings Veola Hogan Suggs, Mary Frances Hogan, David Jr., Robert, Charlie “Chuck” & Joseph; brother-in-law Roosevelt Sr.; and daughter Carol. Alonzo’s legacy of love and tranquility lives on through his family.
Survived by his wife, Joan Hogan, his children Sadonia, Stanley, Kendra, Dawn, Varian, Darian, Kizzi, and Tori; stepchildren Frank, Maggie, Rudolph, and Tiffany; and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Alonzo’s spirit of peace and familial devotion endures. His sister Delores, and brothers Henry and Dennis, together with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will continue to celebrate the life of a man who was the epitome of relaxed composure and familial affection.
Alonzo “Geech” Hogan’s life was a symphony of serene moments, familial joy, and the gentle reminder of the importance of time. His memory will be cherished as a beacon for living with joy and patience.
