Anthony Mendonca Jr., 85, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, passed away January 26, 2018.
Anthony was born on August 24, 1932, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Antonio and Maria da Natividade Alves D’Abreu Mendonca.
Anthony moved to Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 4. Over twenty years later, he moved back to Elizabeth, NJ, before moving to Port Saint Lucie, Florida.
Anthony taught himself music before the age of 12 and went on to receive the National Syndicates Professional Musicians License at the age of 18. After Anthony returned to the United States, he joined the U.S. Army in 1956 and served out of Fort Dix. It was during this time that he taught himself how to read and write the English language using the dictionary. Later, Anthony worked as a shipping/receiving clerk for Wallace & Tiernan in Belleville, NJ, and then as a City Inspector for Elizabeth, New Jersey, before retiring.
Survivors include: wife of 61 years, Maria Fernanda Carvalho Mendonca of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; daughter, Virginia Mary Mendonca Cortico, of Elizabeth, New Jersey; son, Helder Mendonca of Chester, New Jersey; daughter, Irene Carvalho Mendonca, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; son-in-law, Joseph M. Cortico; daughter-in-law, Nancy A. Louro Mendonca; son-in-law, Miguel A. Milian; grandchildren and their significant other; Jennifer S. Cortico Laranjeira, Jose M. Laranjeira, Michael J. Cortico, Sandra S. Cortico-Vilela, Nelson M. Vilela, Michelle C. Cortico, Christopher J. Cortico, Kelly Greene, Stephen A. Mendonca, Erica R. Mendonca, Matthiew J. Mendonca, Brandon J. Louro Mendonca; great-grandchildren Sylvia P. & Stephanie A. Cortico Laranjeira, Ariana C. & Isabella M. Cortico, Erik G., Katherine S. and Andrew J. Cortico Vilela; sisters-In-Law, Maria Natividade Martins Mendonca, and Maria de Lurdes Macieira Carvalho, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Mendonca’s family asks memorial contributions to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association;

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 12PM to 3PM with a service to start at 3PM at the Haisley Tribute Center 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd Port Saint Lucie, Florida 34984.
