Antoinette van Rhyn Brolmann, 91, passed away January 12, 2017. She was born in Hilversum, Holland May 31, 1925. Married to Dr. Johannes B.B. Brolmann on September 8, 1952 and moved to Southern France where three of their four boys were born. They immigrated to Gainesville, FL in 1960, settling in Fort Pierce in 1969.
Nettie was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, a water safety instructor and taught canoeing. She supported and volunteered for numerous environmental causes and was a member of the Audubon Society and Heathcote Botanical Gardens and belonged to the Florida Trail Association since 1970. Certified in scuba diving, she was very active in all outdoor activities including competitive swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, camping and a member of the The Florida Racquettes tennis team. Nettie was very active in their church, St. Marks Catholic Church, singing in the choir and she was a Eucharistic Minister. She was a lover of life, family and God.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Dr. Johannes “John” Brolmann of Fort Pierce; four sons, Joost Brolmann of Canada, Wouter “Wally” Brolmann, Marteen “Marty” Brolmann and Jan Paul “JP” Brolmann all of Fort Pierce; and two daughter-in-laws, Betty Ann and Anna Brolmann, of Ft. Pierce. She has seven grandchildren; Lauren Brolmann Strunk, Daniel Brolmann, Luke Brolmann, Shane Brolmann, Kaitlyne Brolmann, Jason Brolmann and Kristen Brolmann. Also, three greatgrandchildren; Christain Koehler, Harrison Strunk and Johannes Brolmann.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers; Johanna “Joka” van Rhyn, Maria Henriette “Riette” Steneker, twin sister Theresia “Tessie” Roelofs, Jacobus Johannes “Jack” van Rhyn all of Holland and Richard “Dick” van Rhyn of the United States.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Marks Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 10 AM. Burial will be in White City Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Heathcote Botanical Gardens.
