Arne Hedal, 91, passed away on October 30, 2016 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Mr. Hedal was born in Bredsten, Denmark and immigrated to the United States, settling in Fort Pierce in 1965.
Soon after moving, he started working at Piper in Vero Beach, Florida and later decided to become an entrepreneur. This started with making and selling Danish cookies to local groceries then grew to his own shop on North US Highway 1. During this time, he also started importing and selling Danish wooden clogs. He sold more than 48,000 pairs of wooden shoes out of his shop to people all over the country. In 1971 he began to import furniture from Denmark; starting the company Danish Furniture, Inc. Over 45 years later, it is still family owned and operated by his surviving son.
When he was not running his business, he could be found golfing at Indian Hills, watching Nascar, or traveling.
Survivors include his son, René Hedal of Fort Pierce, FL grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annalise Hedal and his daughter, Annie Knowles.
A private ceremony will be held at his residence on November 5, 2016 at 3:00 PM.
