Barbara Kay Lyons

June 15, 1941 — August 18, 2017

Barbara Kay Lyons, 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 18, 2017 in Weston, Florida.

Barbara was born in Pikeville, Kentucky and moved to Fort Pierce in 1980 coming from Tennessee.

She was blessed with many artistic talents. For the majority of her life she was a seamstress, creating everything from everyday clothing for her family to elaborate dresses for the local Irish Step Dancing School. She took pride in every creation, especially when it came to making her granddaughter’s velvet dresses that she and her mother, Madge, and sister, Ann, spent months creating. Barbara was also an artist and loved working with several different mediums such as oil paints, chalk, and pencil. There wasn’t much she couldn’t draw, but she had a passion for drawing Indians and roses. Later in life she and her sister began crafting jewelry. She would sit for hours stringing beads together and bending wire to create a true masterpiece. Barbara loved all types of stones, the rarer the better.

Barbara also had a love for nature. She loved caring for plants and growing them from seeds. You would think a plant was dying, and you’d give it to her, and she would bring it back to life and make it even bigger and better. She loved all animals, especially her grand dogs and birds.

Most of all she cherished her family. She loved her children, but when it came to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she loved them fiercely. Grandma Barbara had an extra special love for her Sunshine (Hais) and her Moonbeams (Rylan). These two little boys brought her so much joy and endless amounts of laughter.

Survivors include her daughter, Stephanie Lyons (Mia Frederick) of Port St. Lucie, FL; sons, Bert Lyons (Greg Steenburgh) of Vero Beach, FL and John Lyons (Pam Willis) of Fort Pierce, FL; sister, Ann Hardman of Fort Pierce, FL; grandchildren, Quinn Haisley-Wheeler (Christopher), Ronnie Robinette (Michael), AJ Lyons (Janine), Kaitlyn Lyons, Richard Haisley (Priscilla) and Lee Anne Haisley (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Sawyer Hais & Rylan Christopher Wheeler, Kensley Marie and Connor James Lyons, Ireland Joshlynn Marie Harvey, Liam Owen Jarrod Lyons, Seth, Kye, Victoria & Dominic Haisley, and Brody & Keegan Verdegem; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Smith and Madge Stewart; son, Vincent Lyons; and brother, Wayne Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Dogs and Cats Forever.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 4 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. Per her request a 50’s theme celebration will follow at the Haisley Reception Center.
