Barbara “Barbie” Doetsch Matikas

Barbara Doetsch Matikas, 74, died August 9, 2023, in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Barbara was born in South Bend, Indiana and grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She later moved to Merritt Island FL., and recently relocated to Lake Placid, FL.

Barbie received her Associate of Arts Degree at Palm Beach Junior College, and in her young career was a division manager for Sears where she met her husband, Nick. Later they started their own business as Allstate Insurance Agents in Boca Raton, FL., and traveled extensively before settling in Merritt Island, FL. They enjoyed life on the Banana River and attended mass at Holy Name of Jesus with her mother and sister who lived in Satellite Beach.                                                                                                                                                                                                     

Barbara was a people person who made friends easily and loved her family. Her Greek heritage along with her husband's Greek family found her cooking Greek cuisine for many family occasions. She loved parties, cooking, and entertaining, and was always the life of the party at every event. Barbara always made everyone feel welcomed and loved. She was a giving and loving person and there was nothing that she would not do for her family and friends. Celebrating family was important to her and no one could love their family more than she did! 

Survivors include her sisters, Kathleen (Gary) Morris of Davie, FL and Teresa (James) Reeves of Beaufort, SC; nephews, Richard (Laila) Anthony of Las Vegas, NV and Gary B. (Lynsey) Morris of Lake Okeechobee, FL; great-nieces, Aubrey and Hailey Morris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas J. Matikas; sister, Christine Doetsch, and parents, Ellen (Vlahakis) & Bernard F. Doetsch. 

In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Doberman Pinscher Rescue. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 10:30-11:00 AM with a Mass to follow at 11:00 AM at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 3050 N. Hwy A1A, Indialantic, FL 32903. Inurnment will take place in the church garden after the Mass.
