Don Bartolo Alvarez, 102, founder of CASA Latina in the city of New York passed away on March 24, 2017.
“Emigrated to New York in 1928, please pray for doing his residency in the neighborhood. There was developed as a musician and later as one of the largest distributors and promoters of our music in front of CASA Latina, record store that still exists in the neighborhood. I had the good fortune to meet him in 1999 when it is entrevist for the newspaper “always”. Since then I’ve kept a close friendship with Don Bartolo, person who infected with their vitality and joy. Part of his legacy is part of the collection of the center for Puerto Rican studies at Hunter College, cuny. We lost one of our great pioneers. Rest in peace, Don Bartolo.” Written by Ewin Martinez Torre, personal family friend.
