Benjamin Nichols Wilson Jr., age 84, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on January 17, 2025. Born on June 19, 1940, in Wilmington, Delaware, Ben was the cherished son of Lydia and Benjamin Wilson Sr.
Ben was a man of many passions. A gifted athlete, he played quarterback at Sanford Prep School in Wilmington, Delaware, where he made lifelong friendships. He later served as a cryptographer in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt aircraft carrier. Following his military service, Ben attended the University of Delaware and enjoyed a successful career in marketing, first with Bristol Meyers and later for 35 years with Sylvania Lighting.
Ben’s zest for life was unparalleled. After retiring, he and his wife, Candy, spent eighteen years living on their sailboat, New Wave, traveling the world and creating unforgettable memories. Ben and Candy’s 43 years together were filled with incredible experiences and lifelong memories.
Benjamin was a proud member of Back Creek Yacht Club in Annapolis, Maryland where he served a term as Commodore, enjoying smooth sailing with amazing friends. Eventually, Ben and Candy settled in Port St. Lucie, Florida, to be near family, where Ben continued to live life to the fullest, entertaining, and nurturing his deep love for those around him.
A devout Catholic, Ben’s faith and family were the cornerstones of his life. Ben is survived by his wife, Candy, two brothers David and his wife Nina, Douglas and his wife Christal, and his two daughters Nichole and Natalie Coric and her husband Denny, and grandchildren Dylan and Alyssa Coric. While our hearts are heavy with his passing, we find comfort in knowing that he has returned to heaven to be with his loved ones in his eternal home.
The service will be held at St. Anastasia Catholic Church at 407 S 33rd St, Fort Pierce, FL 34947 on Thursday, February 6. 2025 at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ben’s memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (www.t2t.org), a charity close to his heart.
Ben’s spirit will live on in the many lives he touched with his love, generosity, and laughter. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
