Bertie Gwynne Reynolds Cofer, 95, born in Charleston, SC, March 31, 1912, daughter of William Taliaferro Reynolds and Laetitia Bernadette Enter Reynolds, married March 4, 1934, at Lawrenceville, Ga., passed away peacefully at her home with family Saturday, June 9, 2007, in Fort Pierce, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Cofer of Fort Pierce, a son, Olin S. Cofer II of Atlanta, a great-granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Church and great-great grandson Logan Jackson both of Fort Pierce.Survivors include two daughters Frances Fulghum and Gail Church, both of Fort Pierce, FL; two sons William P. Cofer III, of Fort Pierce, FL and Frank H. Cofer Jr. of Atlanta, GA.; 18 grandchildren including Grace Kirby Trafton and Joan Kirby of Lewisville, TX; Mathew Fulghum, Jacksonville, FL and Chris Fulghum, Washington, DC; Tish Mathews and Betsy Russell of Vero Beach, FL; Bill Church of St. Petersburg, FL; Mary Schmokel, Tampa, FL; Olin S. Cofer III, Maysville, Ga. and Kelley Malone of Salt Lake City; Frank H. Cofer III, Katherine Cofer and Joseph C. Cofer of Atlanta, GA; John S. Cardell, Troy Church, Bud Cofer, Mike Cofer, and Cory Cofer all of Fort Pierce, FL; 21 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.Mrs. Cofer was a graduate of Clarkston High School, Clarkston, Ga., attended Agnes Scott College, Decatur GA and graduated from Oglethorpe University of Atlanta. She moved with her husband to Fort Pierce in 1942 from Atlanta. She worked for the Post Office, being among the first woman rural mail carriers in the country. She was the oldest living member of Orange Avenue Baptist Church of Fort Pierce and a member of Lamp Lighters Sunday School class.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2007 from 5-8 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at Haisley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park. Brother David Hart, pastor of Orange Avenue Baptist Church will officiate.
