Bessie (Betty) Duley of Fort Pierce, FL formerly of Wyandotte, MI.Betty grew up during World War I, Prohibition and the Great Depression. As World War II began, she ventured to Washington DC to work in the war effort. In Washington, she met and married George Novel Duley, a Maryland widower with three young sons.They relocated back to Michigan and raised their family in Wyandotte. Betty cared for George faithfully during a long bout with Parkinson’s disease. After George’s death in 1976 she relocated to Ft Pierce, FL near her sister Lillian Racho. Together they explored Florida and many other places and the challenges of being widowed.
After dealing with home damage from four hurricanes in six months in 2005, Betty chose to relocate to a new home at Lake Forest in Ft Pierce.Betty kept personal diaries for more than seventy-five years, and was a faithful letter writer to friends and family. She created much of her own happiness, and cherished the enduring friendships she made during her thirty years of living in the Tall Pines area to Ft Pierce. She will be greatly missed by those who shared a loving relationship with her.She is survived by her sons, William Norman Duley of Vista, CA, George (Jane) Duley of Franklin, NC, Robert (Jeanne) Duley of Dayton, OH, Wayne (Laraine) Duley of Wyandotte and daughter-in-law Arden Duley of Hendersonville, NC; 12 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, her cousin Florence Scott of PA, and loving friends and caregivers Janice and Dave Bieschke of Ft Pierce. She is preceded in death by her parents Bertrand and Anna Russell; husband George Novel Duley; sister Lillian (Howard) Racho; son Raymond Duley; grandsons Michael Duley and wife Shirley Duley and Patrick Duley; daughter-in-laws Patricia Duley and LeAnne Duley.Memorial Contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospices 1201 SE Indian St, Stuart, FL 34997.
A memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home in Ft Pierce, FL. A separate inurnment service will be held at Michigan Memorial Cemetery in Flat Rock, MI.
