Betty Griffin Dees

Betty Griffin Dees, beloved wife of the late Charles Mark Dees Jr. (Chuck), passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 18th, 2014.
Born in Titusville, FL on June 14th, 1930, Betty enjoyed the fact that her birthday fell on Flag Day. Her father and mother were Robert Lee and Tommie Pittman Griffin. The Griffin family relocated to Fort Pierce when Betty was nine months old. Her father was a local rancher and County Commissioner.
After graduating from Fort Pierce High School in 1948, Betty attended Florida State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952. She began her career as an interior designer at Rich’s Department Store in Atlanta, GA.
Betty and Chuck met while she was at Florida State University and he was serving as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. After his proposal on the 4th of July, 1954, they were married in Fort Pierce on December 18th, 1954. The reception was held at the Pelican Yacht Club.
The newlyweds began their married life in Texas where their daughters Cheryl, Diane and Nancy were born. In 1962, they moved to Baltimore, MD to establish their business, Dees Hydraulics Corporation. Their son, Mark, was born in Baltimore. Betty was Chuck’s business partner and advisor. She was also a devoted mother to her four children.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Dees Kensington and her husband, Costa; daughter, Diane Dees Agate and her husband, John; daughter, Nancy Dees Golya and her husband, Steve; and her son, Mark and his wife, Kelly Reynolds Dees. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Ragan Kensington, Costa Nicholas Kensington Jr., John Robert Agate, Mark Agate, Austin Golya, Katie Golya, Lauren Golya and Eleanor Griffin (Lindy) Dees.
