Blanche Johnson Smith

January 16, 1920 — September 1, 2017

A beautiful baby girl with a loving, kind and generous spirit was born on January 16, 1920 to Deacon Rufus and Drusilla Johnson in Archie, Florida. She was their third child and they named her Blanche. She was soft spoken, caring, and known to share. Her family moved to Stuart, Florida where she was educated in the Martin County Public School System.

She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Stuart, Florida. Later, she married William Smith who had a dry cleaning business in Stuart. She became his receptionist and spotter. They moved to Hobe Sound and the business, Willie’s Valet, was located on Jupiter Island. Blanche worked until retirement.

Blanche was always self-employed and took long vacations to Atlantic City, New Jersey and New York. The hobby she loved was reading.

Blanche, affectionately known as “Auntie”, encouraged her family to be productive and sent some of them to college.

Auntie moved from Hobe Sound to Hawthorne, Florida and attended The Highway Church of the Apostles’ Faith. Elder Alfred Belle was her pastor and caregiver. She later returned home to Hobe Sound and under the leadership of Elder Calvin Moment, she attended The Apostles’ Faith Church of Jesus Christ where Elder George Dix was her pastor.
At the time of her home-going, “Auntie” was attending St. Matthew Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Thomas McClain as pastor.
During Auntie's final years, she had numerous caregivers. Her niece, Vivian Grant was her special caregiver.

Blanche left our presence on September 1, 2017 and began her journey home with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ joining her husband William, her sister Elizabeth Johnson Moment, and her brothers Verneton and Cornelious Johnson.

She leaves to celebrate her life on earth, a host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 1PM at the Florida Memorial Cemetery at Hobe Sound in Hobe Sound, Florida.
