Bobbie Lee Neal was born on May 28, 1930 in West Frankfort, Illinois to Artie and Pauline Neal. He passed away peacefully on November 21, 2016.
He is survived by his wife, Billie (Farthing), children Cathy Whitaker, Mike (Dale) Neal, Dee Ann (Kevin) Aubry, Trish (John) Paul, and Bob (Paige) Neal. He was adored by his ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren (with three more on the way) and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Sharon (Hugh) Gilmore and sister-in-law Joann (Harry) Revelle. He was predeceased by his daughter Susan.
He was a Korean War Veteran and a 3-sport athlete in high school. During halftime, while the other players went to the locker room, he would run into the bleachers to play the bass horn (tuba) in the high school band. He was invited to try out for the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Rams.
“Big Bob” loved and was incredibly knowledgable about sports and history. He was an avid reader and a source of much joy, laughter, and love to many.
The family will celebrate Bob’s life on January 14th, 2017. Time has not been set.
