Mr. Petersen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on March 17, 1924, he immigrated with his wife, two children and his parents to Ft. Pierce in May of 1954.

From 1958 to 1967 he owned Bruno’s Terrazzo. After selling the business, he began working as a tool and die machinist, a trade he had learned in Denmark, and eventually found the job he loved for 17 years at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, retiring in 1988.

He loved woodworking and built each family member something with his ever busy hands.

He spent many wonderful years with his wife in Schenandoah Hills, Murphy, North Carolina, spending the warmer months there and the cooler months in Florida. Nine years ago, he and his wife moved from Ft. Pierce to a retirement community in Apopka, Florida, where he continued to stay busy as all-around handyman for the park where he lived.

He is survived by his wife, Gurli, his daughter, Laila Quigley and her husband Buzz of Ft. Pierce, FL, daughter, Lillian Brown and her husband Don of Altamonte Springs, his son, Kenneth Petersen of Ft. Pierce, FL, his grandsons, Kevin Brown and his wife Beth of Orlando, Shane Brown and his wife Kristin of Altamonte Springs, granddaughter, Tracy Stephens and her husband Jeff of Clermont, grandson, Christopher Quigley and his wife Marilyn of Ft. Pierce, great-grandchildren, Evan and Garrett Brown, Kiley and Alexis Brown, Bryan Quigley, and Alec and Alyssa Stephens.
