Burrell Edward (Ben) Davis
Burrell E. Davis, 91, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2013 at Lake Forest Park Assisted Living in Ft. Pierce, FL.
He was born in Davisville, FL and raised in Plant City, FL. Ben joined the Navy after graduating from high school. He was aboard the air craft carrier, Yorktown when it was sunk in June 1942, in the battle of Midway. As a tail gunner, he then was assigned to the aircraft carrier Hornet, which was sunk in the Battle of Santa Cruz in the Solomon Islands. He was returned to the States where he trained other sailors in gunnery.
After serving six years in the Navy, he returned to Florida where he began work as a boiler maker working at various nuclear and Power plants.
Ben was a long time member of White City Methodist Church. He also served for many years as Chaplain of the Ft. Pierce Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.
Ben was predeceased by his wife, Sarah and son, Tim. He is survived by sisters, Agnes Kendrick of Lakeland, FL and Gwen Lesnick of Kissimmee, FL; brothers, Webb Davis of Hiawassee, GA, Billy Davis of Monroe, LA and Coleman Davis of Vero Beach, FL, plus several nieces and nephews.
