Captain Stanley S. Skorupski Jr., U.S. Navy (Ret.), age 85, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Hospice of Treasure Coast, Fort Pierce, Florida. He was born August 24, 1932 in Montclair, New Jersey to Stanley and Stephanie Skorupski.
In 1955 he graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland, with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees. He also graduated from the USN Submarine School and the USN Nuclear Power School.
Stan had a distinguished career in the US Navy; he was division officer and department head of various ships and submarines., U.S. Atlantic Fleet, 1955-67; executive officer, USS James Monroe, Charleston, SC 1968-70; commanding officer, USS Alexander Hamilton, Charleston, SC/Newport News, VA 1970-75; deputy chief of staff, Commander Submarine Force Atlantic, Norfolk, VA 1975-78; commanding officer USS Orion, 1978-80, commanding officer Nuclear Submarine School, 1980-83; commanding officer U.S. Naval Base 1983-85, Charleston, SC, Assistant Vice President Long Island Lighting Company, Shoreham, NY 1990-1997.
Stan enjoyed reading, walking, gardening, good conversation with friends and found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Florence, his loving daughter Anne, son Philip, step-sons Stephen, Todd, and Craig and 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held March 2, 2018 10:00 am at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce, Florida.
A funeral service with full military honors will take place at a later date at Long Island National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be made to the Hospice of the Treasure Coast, Fort Pierce, Florida.
