Carl G. Stenberg, age 94, of Fort Pierce, FL, passed away on February 7, 2011.
Carl was born in New Bedford, MA, where he attended local schools. In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and participated in four invasions, including the invasion of Normandy. Carl was honorably discharged in 1945, with the rank of Chief Quatermaster. Always a gentleman and patriot, Carl was an example of the “Greatest Generation”.
After being discharged, he was employed by Pitney Bowes Inc., as an Industrial Engineer, retiring in 1979. During this period Carl resided in Norwalk, CT. In 1982 he moved to Fort Pierce, FL, to enjoy his retirement. He was an avid bowler will into his 90’s.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothea, daughter Caroline, and sisters, Ruth Keith and Svea Williams.
Survivors include nephews, Richard Keith, Rockwood Keith, Jr., and nieces, Darilyn Farley, Elizabeth Keith and special friends, Ralph and Hilde Morgan.
Carl was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church of Port St. Lucie, and the American Legion Post 40 of Fort Pierce.
Graveside Service will be held at his family plot at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk, CT on Monday, February 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Out of town arrangements are by Magner Funeral Home of Norwalk, CT.
