Carolyn Airlene Sapp Bailey
On January 23, 2013, Carolyn A. Sapp Bailey, 81, of Ft. Pierce, Florida passed peacefully in her sleep at St. Lucie Hospice House.
Carolyn was born on December 10, 1931 in Douglas, Georgia, daughter of Walter L. and Caroline Carver Sapp. The family permanently settled in Fort Pierce when she was four. Her father owned a sawmill. Carolyn began her school years at the Indrio Road Schoolhouse and graduated from Saint Lucie County High School in 1950.
Carolyn was a Sunday School teacher, and active member of Community United Methodist Church. In the past 6 years attended First United Methodist Church with family. During their marriage, Carolyn was an integral part of each business they operated; from their early years in irrigation, to Cody L. Bailey Construction, Inc. as Secretary/Treasurer and as co-owner of C&C Rentals. She served alongside Cody as a Jayceette, all the way to State Presidency and beyond. Carolyn was instrumental in the beginning of Indian River Community College- now known as Indian River State College- going door to door having petitions signed for it’s start. Always politically active she served as secretary in the late 60’s of the Democratic Executive Committee. Her fondest memory was attending Hayden Burns Governor’s Ball. One of her favorite past times revolved around the use of their home pool to teach kids to swim through the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department- although she herself never swam.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Cody L. Bailey, her father and mother, and grandson, Shawn Michael Davi.
