Charles Mark Dees Jr., beloved husband of Betty Griffin Dees, passed away peacefully at home on September 2, 2014. In addition to Betty, his wife of almost sixty years, Chuck is survived by his four children: Cheryl Dees Kensington of Darien, CT, Diane Dees Agate of Redwood City, CA, Nancy Dees Golya of Bel Air, MD and Charles Mark Dees III of Timonium, MD. Also surviving are three sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law and eight grandchildren: Ragan and Costa Nicholas Kensington, John Robert and Mark Agate, Austin, Katie, and Lauren Golya, and Eleanor Griffin (Lindy) Dees. Chuck is also survived by his brother, David Ragan Dees, of Denison TX.
Following graduation from East Texas State College, Chuck served as a pilot in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1958.
Chuck and Betty were married in Fort Pierce, FL on December 18th, 1954. Their wedding reception was held at the Pelican Yacht Club which was also the location of their 50th anniversary celebration.

In 1962, Chuck founded Dees Hydraulics Company in Baltimore, Maryland. He grew this business with Betty’s help to include additional locations in Richmond, VA and West Conshohocken, PA. All four of his children grew up working for Dees Hydraulics, learning business as well as life lessons that have served them well into adulthood.
An avid pilot, Chuck, flew frequently for business as well as pleasure in his Beechcraft Bonanza.
For many years Chuck and Betty flew his single-engine plane between their homes in Baltimore and Fort Pierce, Betty’s home town. Upon finally retiring to Fort Pierce, he was an enthusiastic member of the Aero Club and the Pelican Yacht Club. Chuck, along with Betty, was a member of Indian River Presbyterian Church Fort Pierce.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 22, 2014 from 5:30-7:30 PM at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce. A service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 11:30 AM at Indian River Presbyterian Church, Fort Pierce. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Chuck’s spirit of independence, his family encourages you to make a donation to the charity of your own choosing.
