Christopher James Lanning, 56, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024, in Fort Pierce, FL.
Born on February 15, 1968 in Newark, NJ. Chris, as he was known to family and friends, was a man imbued with a sharp wit and intellect. He had a profound capacity for love, particularly evident in his role as a devoted husband to his wife, Karrie, and as a dedicated father to his stepsons, David, Ian, and Jacob Senk.
Chris's early years were marked by a commitment to service, demonstrated through his time in the Coast Guard. His life took a nurturing turn as he embraced the profession of nursing, caring deeply for his patients. His passion for helping others led him to pursue a degree in psychology, aiming to broaden his impact on the lives of those around him.
While raised in the Catholic faith, Chris's spiritual journey evolved into a broader spirituality in his later years. This personal evolution was a testament to his open-hearted approach to life and the diverse ways he sought meaning and connection.
A huge movie buff, Chris cherished rewatching his favorite films and shared this love with his family, especially Jacob, creating lasting memories. He excelled at trivia and could spend hours engaged in the game. Fall was his favorite time of year, because that was football season. Chris’s sense of adventure and wanderlust balanced beautifully with his appreciation for quiet nights at home, surrounded by his chosen tribe.
Chris is survived by his wife, Karrie; stepsons, David (Natasha) Senk, Ian Senk, and Jacob Senk; granddaughter, Zora Senk; mother, Barbara Lanning; sister, Helen Lanning; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elwood Lanning and cherished niece Sarah Lanning.
Chris's legacy continues through the lives of the young men he helped raise and the countless individuals he touched through his professional and personal life. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
