Christy P. Mihos, 67, of Stuart, Florida passed away March 25, 2017.
Mr. Mihos was a resident of Sailfish Point in Stuart, Florida where he was active in tennis with his many friends. He was an avid sailor and loved the sea. He was a businessman from Massachusetts and served on the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority during the “Big Dig,” he later authored a book and screenplay based on his experience. He was an Independent candidate for Governor of Massachusetts in 2006.
Christy was born and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts. During his youth, Christy worked in his family's supermarket. He graduated from Brockton High School and Stonehill College. During the 1980s, he was active at the Panagia Greek Orthodox Church in Cohasset, Massachusetts where he was President of the Board of Stewards.
Mr. Mihos owned the convenience store chain Christy's Markets on Cape Cod. The original store was opened in Brockton, Massachusetts by his Greek immigrant grandfather, also named Christy Mihos, during the Depression. In the 1970s, Christy began running the chain as President and Chief Executive Officer. At its peak, the chain included 144 stores found throughout New England.
Christy is survived by his two children; Ashley and Christy; his sister, Marlene; his brother, Jim; as well as, aunts, uncles, many cousins, loving nieces, nephews, grand- nephews and grand-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Mihos and Marie (Vouros) Mihos.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in care of Father John Mamangakis.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 11AM – 12PM with a service starting at 12PM at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 2525 S. 25th Street Fort Pierce, Florida. Burial will follow service at 2:00PM at Fernhill Memorial Gardens Stuart, Florida.
