Daniel (Dan/Danny) Mace Kavanaugh, Jr., 84, died November 12, 2024.

Dan was born on April 8, 1940 in Coral Gables, Florida to Daniel Mace Kavanaugh Sr. and Elizabeth French.

He met the love of his life, his devoted wife, Sharon Eldridge, in chemistry class at Hialeah High School when they were just 15. Their chemical bond of true love and partnership endured for 69 years.

Dan played baseball (pitcher) during high school and then played for the University of Miami Hurricanes. He was an avid sports fan and passionate about rooting for the Canes. He also loved to play his favorite numbers trying to hit the Florida Lotto. His family truly hit the jackpot having him by their side. He was always available to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. He was their greatest treasure.

Prior to retirement, Dan worked 30 years for Miami Dade County in Labor Relations. He was well-liked and admired among his colleagues.

Dan experienced a health event eight years ago that left him to endure a long-term illness. Through it all, he remained strong and resilient, supported by the unwavering care of his family, especially his wife, Sharon. Sharon’s children refer to her as a “bionic woman,” however, Sharon humbly attributes it all to love.

He was a caring, supportive, and strong person with a great sense of humor. He was a very proud Pop Pop and many thought of him as a “second father.” He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sharon Kavanaugh; son, Dan (Kim) Kavanaugh; daughters, Kelli (Bill) Powell and Jodi Kavanaugh; granddaughters, Britney Aten, Karla (Max Timmers) Kavanaugh and Tara Kavanaugh; grandsons, Kyle (Kelly Aten) Aten and Kole Powell; great-grandson, Braden Mace and great-granddaughters, Lily and Dani (due in December).

The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the University of Miami Baseball Fund in Dan’s name.
