Daniel C. Popovich

Daniel C. Popovich passed away on June 18, 2024 at Willson Hospice House in Albany, Georgia.

Daniel, also known as “Danny” was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Rosemary R. Rich & Daniel Popovich Jr.

He spent his early years attending grade school in Akron Ohio and was a known athlete of the football and wrestling team. He graduated Hoban High School in Akron Ohio and ventured back to Youngstown Ohio in 1982 where he became a Reserve Deputy for the Mahoning County Sheriffs Department. He worked as a Reserve Deputy for 2 years while completing the Basic Police Training Academy.

Daniel then moved to South Florida and served over 30 years in Law Enforcement. He started his career as a Police Officer of the Port St. Lucie Police Department in 1983. He transferred to the Lake Park Police Department and was promoted to Sergeant. He served 17 years with Lake Park PD whom eventually merged to the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office. Daniel served an additional 11 years as a Deputy Sheriff for the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office and retired in 2012.

Daniel was the 3rd Generation Popovich to serve in Law Enforcement. He always had a passion for golf after his father taught him the game at the young age of 2. In his passion for golf he enjoyed traveling to golf courses near and far with “his buddies” that he considered family.

Daniel is survived by his daughters, Kristina M. Popovich of Jensen Beach, FL and Leanne N. Popovich of Murfreesboro, TN, his sister, Katherine Anne Mendenhall (Dr. Charles Mendenhall) of Albany, GA and nieces, Katie and Kristen Mendenhall as well as his beloved grandchildren Levi Daniel Redmond, Jackie R. Vice IV (Drew ), James R. Vice (Jake), Bennett O. Vice and Merritt E. Vice.

 A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 11AM to 1PM with a service to start at 1PM at the Haisley Tribute Center 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd Port St. Lucie, FL 34984. Burial will follow at Fernhill Memorial Gardens 1501 S. Kanner Highway Stuart, FL 34994
