Daniel Stirling

December 15, 1946 — June 2, 2019

Daniel Stirling Saralegui, “Papa” 72, passed away at home on June 2nd, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

He was Better than Terrific! Dan was born on December 15, 1946 in Montevideo, Uruguay, to Roberto Daois Stirling and Marta Saralegui. He will be remembered for his helping hand to all and his love of family and community. He always had a kind thought about people and a quiet way of helping those in need. Growing up on the family ranch, somewhere in Uruguay, his favorite thing to do was to aggravate his father’s temper.

He immigrated to the U.S.A. in the latter 60’s where he met his future wife, Alicia. They were married upon her finishing her career as a stewardess with Pan American Airways. Their marriage lasted for 11 years.

He was an advocate for safety, at work and for our highways. He built a career as a Safety Director and Corporate Director of Safety for major trucking companies. Upon retirement, he continued working (in his backyard) and on his passion for a clean environment.

He remarried in 1983 to Cathy, they were married for over 30 years.

He volunteered as a leader for the Boy Scouts of America, as a tutor for Spanish-English students and as a volunteer at the hospital in Lakeland, FL.

His great gift, on a very individual basis, was to listen to issues and problems with insight, to speak with clarity and then work to support that need.

He was grateful to be in America and an American Citizen and grateful to live long enough to influence the lives of his grandchildren that live nearby and to welcome from afar the newborns.

Daniel is survived by his daughters, Christine (Chris) Hall of Port St. Lucie, FL, Jennifer Howell of Cincinnati, OH, Patricia (Neel) Shukula of Tequesta, FL; son, Daniel (Allyson) Stirling, Jr. of Lakeland, FL; daughter, Ashley (Lorenzo) Jones of Lakeland, FL; brothers, Roberto Stirling of Chile; Guillermo Stirling of Uruguay; Jorge Stirling of France; sisters, Beatriz Stirling of Uruguay; Sofia Stirling of Argentina; Isabel Stirling of Uruguay and 13 loving grandchildren. He was preceded by his sister, Marta Stirling.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite drink (and have one for me.)

A Celebration of Life will be held at Lake Parker Park, Lakeland, FL, Saturday, June 8th at 11 AM.

Arrangements are under the direction of Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service. An online guest book may be signed at www.haisleyfuneralhome.com
