Daniel E. Wieneke of Hutchinson Island, Florida passed away on January 30, 2025 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Richard (Dick) and Grace Wieneke on September 13, 1948 in Dubuque, IA. The oldest brother of Wayne, Jeff, Lori, and Amy, Danny was always an Iowa boy at heart. After graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree from Lea College, where he played football, Danny moved east, settling in New Jersey. There he met the love of his life and wife of 47 years, Susan (Slowey). Together they raised a beautiful family, with four children (Sarah, Kristin, Michael & Danielle) and countless pets over the years.
During the golden years of the 80’s and 90’s Dan lived in Cranford, NJ where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus through St. Michael’s Parish, Echo Lake Country Club, Cranford Swim Club and a number of other organizations. He was always giving back to the community and developed lifelong friendships along the way. A mover and a shaker, Dan loved being active and enjoyed playing golf and tennis, skiing, going to the beach, coaching his children's sports teams, and just playing in the backyard.
A professional opportunity brought Dan and his family to Plattsburgh, New York. And although this originated as a short term position, the Wieneke family grew to love and appreciate the north country. Dan’s career led him to serve as the President and CEO of Plattsburgh Airforce Base Redevelopment Corporation (PARC). Over their years in upstate New York, Dan’s family loved spending time on Lake Champlain, learning to boat, ice fish, cross country ski and put docks in the water with ease (as long as Dan was directing). The north country always held a special place in his heart.
While Dan had many professional accomplishments, spending time with him you quickly learned that he was most proud of his family. Always putting them first, he lived for his wife, four kids, their spouses, and nine grandchildren. He and Susan spent endless hours supporting their children's ambitious endeavors and later in life his devotion transitioned to his grandchildren. He was happy to tell anyone who would listen about their accomplishments. Although he was an amazing husband and father, Dan was an all-star Papa! His grandchildren always brought a smile to his face and sometimes it was hard to tell if Dan was the grandfather or just one of the grandkids. While Dan’s family was very important, he was known to invite others to join in on the fun with his warm smile and great sense of humor.
Dan’s faith was central in his life. He was a generous and active member in each church he attended. He also served as a mentor and friend to anyone in need, often connecting over a sweet treat. Dan always had an idea about how to make each situation better.
Dan is survived by his amazing wife, Susan; children Sarah Knysh (Mark), Kristin Malatino (Jimmy), Michael Wieneke (Jessica), Danielle McCarty (Jason), brother Jeff Wieneke (Julie), sisters Lori Maahs (Bruce) and Amy Sheehy and sisters in-law Karen Brunner, Geraldine Natali (Vince) and Margie Kolle (Cam). As well as his nine grandchildren, Joey, Charlotte, Aria, Matthew, Michael, Penn, Winston, Amelia and Rory and countless nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard (Dick) and Grace Wieneke; parents in-law, Jim and Rita Slowey; brother, Wayne Wieneke, and brothers in-law, Larry Brunner, Jim Sheehy and Jim Slowey.
Funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 10th at 10:00 am at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church (13591 Prosperity Farms Road Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410) followed by interment at Our Lady Queen of Peace cemetery (10941 Southern Blvd. Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411).
