David Paul Kelly

David Paul Kelly, age 65, of Ft. Pierce, Florida passed away on July 31, 2014 at Treasure Coast Hospice House.

Born on October 2, 1948 in Norwood, Massachusetts, to Jeanne Belanger Kelly and Paul H. Kelly, he moved to Orlando with his family in 1959 and to Ft. Pierce in 1963. David, a 1966 graduate of Dan McCarty High went on to attend Indian River Junior College, the University of Florida, and graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Math Education. David taught math at Martin County High School. He then served as the St. Lucie County School Board Planner and eventually became the Planning Manager for St. Lucie County Government. He retired from St. Lucie County in 2007.

During his long career, David found great joy in volunteering at elementary schools, helping children understand mathematical concepts. Upon his retirement he became an Adjunct Professor at Indian River State College teaching classes and working as a tutor in the ASC Lab. A true Gator Fan, David only missed four football games in 27 years. He was a passionate, gifted, and award winning photographer. David was an avid bicyclist from childhood. He and Susie became tandem bicycle partners and enjoyed riding many new roads, throughout the United States and Europe. Life was a beautiful ride for David and Susie.

David is survived by the love of his life Susan Sample Kelly, his devoted wife of 45 years, his brother Richard Kelly (Laura), sister Karen Kelly Frame (Bobby), sister-in-law Sally Sample Yochem (Manning).He was the fun uncle of six nieces and nephews, Janet, Paul, Cindy, Sam, Jack, and Jenny, ten great nieces and nephews, and many fabulous friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David Kelly’s name to Treasure Coast Hospice, 5000 Dunn Road, Ft. Pierce, FL 34981.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on Friday, September 5, 2014 at 4:00 at Haisley Reception Center.
