David Earl Kerchenfaut, born in Gibson City, IL on April 15, 1941, died in his Port St. Lucie, FL residence on November 9, 2022.
David’s early years were spent on farms, first in Gibson City, then in Warsaw, IN.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts from Ball State University, Muncie, IN, he taught briefly in Tipton, IN schools before enlisting in the USAF. He was stationed in a Wichita Falls, TX, base hospital in rehabilitation of returning veterans.
After leaving the Air Force, he returned to Ball State to earn his master’s degree and to the Marion, IN, VA Hospital as a Vocational Rehabilitation therapist. He was to remain affiliated with VA hospitals in Indiana, Texas, and Florida until his retirement at age 80.
David was a very active member of Grant County (IN) Shriners Clowns and took great pride in his contribution to children in need.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (William) Walsh, Naples, FL, grandchildren, Keira and Brendan, Naples, FL, brother, Clayton, Warsaw, IN, brother, Thomas, Vicksburg, MI, sister, Jillene, CA, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake worth Florida on November 28, 2022 at 2PM.
