It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Dolores ("Dolly") Ruth Sfarnas, who passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the age of 94, at her home in Stuart, Florida.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was a resident of Stuart for 37 years, after leaving her long time home in Northern Virginia. Dolores was a member of St. James Orthodox Church in Port St. Lucie, and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Pierce.
Dolly was a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a singer on the Atlantic City Boardwalk at the age of 8-years-old, one of the first children performers on television, being featured on the Horn and Hardart Children's Hour in Philadelphia, continuing on with her professional singing career and making records with her husband, then stage comic, John G. Sfarnas, until the age of 26, when she had her third child. Eventually becoming the mother of 6 children, Dolores went on to help her family in various businesses with her husband that ranged from dry cleaners in Arlington, Virginia, restaurants in Arlington and Purcellville, Virginia, and cookie and candy shops in Washington D.C., and Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
She was and will continue to be the shining star to her family of 6 children, 22 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. Dolly is preceded by her husband, John G. Sfarnas, and son, John G. Sfarnas, four sisters and a brother. She is survived by her daughters Dolores Bowmen, Cynthia Angelos, and Sophia Banks, and sons, George and Steven Sfarnas.
She fell asleep in the Lord on the date of her late husband's birthday, and we find peace in knowing she was reunited with the love of her life. Thank you for the memories that will continue to fill our hearts.
The service will be on Thursday, December, 19, 2024, at St. James Orthodox Church in Port St. Lucie at 11am.
