Donald Henry Cunningham

Donald Henry Cunningham, 71, passed away at his home in Port St. Lucie, Florida on July 4, 2023.

Donald was born on April 25, 1952, in La Mesa, California. He attended Granite Hills High School in El Cajon, CA before attending college at Christian Heritage in San Diego, CA. After school, he went on to serve in the United States Air Force as an A-7 pilot, serving in the Vietnam war during the years 1971 and 1972. Following his service, Don worked as a CNC (computer numerically controlled) machinist for the University of California San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Marine Science Development Division. He worked on many interesting projects, like parts for the Space Shuttle, Scorpio (the underwater, unmanned submarine) and NASA’s gamma ray detector that goes in their weather balloon, to name a few.

Donald worshipped at many churches over the years. He attended Skyline Wesleyan Church in Spring Valley, CA for 6 years with his wife, Marilyn, and their 5 children. He served there as a prayer partner to John Maxwell, the church’s senior pastor. Don and Marilyn also worked as Marriage Ministry leaders for several churches, including Rancho Bernardo Baptist Church in Rancho Bernardo, CA, several years; First Christian Church in Maryville, TN for 2 years; Hope Chapel in Maui, HI for 2 years; and at Christ Fellowship in various roles of marriage ministry... 6 years at the Palm Beach Garden's campus and 7 years at the Port St. Lucie campus.

Donald had a heart to see couples thrive in their marriages and to see young men become spiritual leaders of their families. This was his passion in life. 

He has gone home to his reward of heaven, and we have no doubt he has heard the words, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”

Donald was survived by his wife, Marilyn Cunningham of Port St. Lucie, FL; son, Adam Fenton of Cedar Park, TX; daughter, Megan Cunningham of Phoenix, AZ; stepsons, Monty Matthew and Joshua Matthew, both of Stuart, FL; and stepdaughter, Julie Robinson of Spring Valley, San Diego, CA.

Don will be buried at the South Florida National Cemetary in Lake Worth, Florida, at 2pm, on July 28, 2023. We will have his Celebration of Life at Christ Fellowship Church in Port St. Lucie, Florida, at 1pm, on July 29, 2023.
