Donald Neil Baird, age 65, died at home, March 5, 2008 after a long battle with cancer.He was born September 30, 1942, in Omaha, Nebraska, son of Verta Jenkins and Donald Dinwoody Baird. He was educated in the Omaha school system and was a member of the ROTC, Scouts and a Scout Master. He received college degrees from University of Nebraska, Omaha and the College of Saint Mary Nursing.Don lived in Nebraska, Colorado, and was a respected and dedicated nurse on the west coast of Florida and this community for more than a decade. He was a life-long Nebraska Husker football fan, enjoyed camping, traveling, church mission work, many hobbies, the mountains of the West and the beaches of the South.Survivors include his wife, Sonya Baird (also a nurse) of Ft. Pierce, FL, a brother Paul Hennegan and family of Colorado, a son Donald P. Baird and family of Nebraska, a daughter Jill C. Jones and family of Nebraska and his Florida daughters, Angela M. Briscoe and Gina L. Sadler and their families. This includes 10 grandchildren he adored.He was preceded in death by his parents and the mother of his children.Memorial contributions may be made in Don’s name to the American Cancer Society/HOPE LODGE, 2121 SW 16th Street, Gainesville, FL 32608.Services: A memorial service will be held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, on Virginia Avenue at a future date to be announced.
