Dorothy Catherine Knowles, 88, died on Saturday, January 7, 2017 in Lake Worth, Florida.
Born to Samuel and Azzalee Peeples on March 23, 1928. She was the youngest of 11 children in Ocala, Florida. Dorothy was raised in Harlem, New York. Graduated from Seward Park High School in Manhattan, New York in 1947. She was also a longtime resident of South Norwalk, Connecticut. She moved to Fort Pierce in 1987.
Dorothy worked as a nurse’s aide for many years in Norwalk, Connecticut.
Mrs. Knowles was a Jehovah Witness and attended the Kingdom Hall on 3535 Deberry Rd., Fort Pierce. She had a beautiful singing voice, loving all kinds of music. She also spoke French
and loved reading for pleasure.
Dorothy was the wife of the late John Lewis Knowles and is survived by sons, Leon Knowles & Rosa Cooper of Fort Pierce, FL, John E. (Scarlett) Knowles of Oviedo, FL, daughter, Azzalee M. (Marvin) Edwards of Waterbury, CT , sister, Flora Morris of Fort Pierce, FL, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Carl Knowles.
