Allen attended Choate Episcopal Boys’ School in Wallingford, Connecticut; Yale University in New Haven Connecticut; Juilliard School of Music in New York; Columbia University, earning a BS in Musicology at the U. of Western Connecticut; an MS in Music Education at the U. of Miami; a PHD in Music Theory and Composition at Miami and Hamilton University. In addition, Dr. Rosenberg studied conducting with Jean Morel, Vernon de Tar and Virgil Fox.

Serving in the United States Air Force, he was an instructor and Navigator and Electronic Warfare officer, and flew aboard B-47’s and B-52’s.

During his more than 60 year musical career, he played in many churches as organist, choirmaster, and director. Among those are St. Thomas New York; Trinity by the Cove in Naples; St. John’s, Naples and All Saints in Fort Lauderdale; St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of Ft. Pierce, and St. Mary’s in Stuart, Florida.

He was a concert organist for many years, playing in the United States and Europe, performing 17 years in summers as organist at St. Maximillian, Dusseldorf, Germany. He played at St. Stephan’s Cathedral in Passau, Germany, on the biggest church organ in the world as well as churches in Ireland and England.

Allen was a gifted composer and wrote many pieces of church music; including a Requiem and organ compositions.

Gifted with children, Dr. Rosenberg taught elementary, middle, high school and college levels, including Valhalla High School in New York, Naples High School, St. Lucie High School, St. Michael’s (Pine School), Edison College of Fort Myers, Broward Community College of Fort Lauderdale, and Indian River State College at different intervals.

Allen was the Founder, Artistic Director, conductor and Composer of the St. Lucie Chorale, a community organization dedicated to performing classical music, including works by great composers such as Bach, Hayden, Faure, and even Broadway and Jazz concerts.

2005 was the Word Premiere of his composition, “The Waldron Requiem” for choir, soloist, string orchestra with timpani and organ, presented at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Fort Pierce. The chorale performed The Requiem in several venues: St. Mary’s, Stuart; St. Christopher in Hobe Sound; in Ratingen, next to Dusseldorf Germany, with the ‘Konzert Chor 73’ in the Maltz Jupiter Theater with 140 Singers, 3 soloists, a 46-piece orchestra and organ. Ratingen was one of the International Art Exchange Programs which Dr. Rosenberg loved. The St. Lucie Chorale traveled from the Treasure Coast and sang in the Royal Albert Hall in London, England.

Allen was a member of the American Guild of Organist and the Yale Club. Composing, playing organ concerts at every opportunity, was his life; but first he was a Church organist until illness with Parkinson’s prevented his continuing.

Dr. Rosenberg died on February 26, 2021 in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

At a future time, Dr. Rosenberg’s final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
