Dudley S. Colbert, 81, formerly of Roanoke, Virginia died July 29, 2006 in Ft. Pierce, Florida.Dudley was born in St. Francisville, Illinois on June 20, 1925, the son of Clark & Gladys Colbert.He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and graduated from Indiana University in 1950.
He was a clothing broker with Utah Tailoring of Ogden, Utah for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Elks Club, a shriner at the Kazim Temple, 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite and was past President of S.A.S.A. He was also a volunteer at the Saint Lucie County Historical Museum.Dudley was an avid boater at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia and will always be remembered as a true friend and great story teller.
Survivors include his wife, Ayliffe Colbert of Ft. Pierce, FL; step-children, Tom Dickinson and wife, Fran of Silvis, IL, Stephen Dickinson and wife, Luanna of Dandridge, TN, Dennis Freeborn and wife, Ingrid of Rocky Mount, VA, Cynthia Heimbeck and husband, David of Moline, IL, Richard Freeborn and wife, Rita of East Moline, IL, Kimberly Fortman and husband, Terry of Davenport, IA and Cheryl Dickinson and James Moss of Rugeley, England; nephew, Tom McNamera of Indianapolis, IN; niece, Dara Krack of Orma, WV; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marjorie McNamera and his parents.
