Edna Mae Hood Vachon

December 3, 1964 — October 17, 2023

Fort Pierce

Edna Mae Hood Vachon passed away peacefully at home in Ft. Pierce, Florida surrounded by family on October 17, 2023.  She was born the youngest of three children to Ray and Kathryn Hood in Ft. Pierce, Florida on December 3, 1964.  Edna was a graduate of Ft. Pierce Westwood High School and Indian River State College.  She worked for Diamond R Fertilizer and the agriculture industry where early on in her career she met Rick, her loving husband of 35 years.

Edna and Rick raised their four beautiful children in their forever family home on the same land that grew her family’s citrus trees, Hood Groves. Together they raised two daughters and two sons.  Her daily life was devoted to her family, friends, animals, and love of the outdoors, whether it be land or sea.  Edna created many fond memories of family dinners, magical holidays, finding sand dollars on Ft. Myers Beach, summer vacations to the Florida Keys, and her home was always filled with love and laughter.  She enjoyed offshore fishing and spending time in the woods with Rick, her forever love.

Edna was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Anastasia Catholic Church.   She also was an equestrian enthusiast at heart with a deep appreciation for her own horses as well as caring for others’ horses as a boarder.  She was heavily involved with the St. Lucie County 4-H Association and served as club leader of Southern Swine 4-H Club for many years.  Helping the young members, and then seeing her own children and ultimately her grandchildren show livestock at the St. Lucie County Fair was one of her favorite and most rewarding pastimes.  She was a proud member of the local sorority Xi Nu Gamma and she created many wonderful memories and traditions with her loving sisters.  Edna loved to go antiquing with her closest friends, care for her orchids, and her affinity for animals ensured she always had a pet, most recently, her dog, Copper, near and dear to her.

Edna loved to laugh and loved the laughter of others.  She was quick witted and famous for her “one-liners” that kept everyone smiling.  She loved to host family, friends, and her beloved 10 Mile Creek Gang at her home under her tin roof barn where many nights ended with good food, laughter, music, and an intimate roaring fire.  Edna’s grandchildren were the light in her eyes.  She loved making cookies with them, decorating for the holidays, watching them fish in her home’s pond, and having sleepovers.

She loved well and was in turn loved by many. As her family mourns her vibrant spirit, they also rejoice in her departure to Heaven into the loving arms of Jesus where she is now resting in eternal peace with Him, the One in whom she had put her eternal trust.

She is survived by her husband, Richard C. Vachon of Fort Pierce, FL; daughter, Chelsea K. (Justin) Beebe of Okeechobee, FL; son, Chad C. Vachon of Fort Pierce, FL; step-daughter, Danielle (Chris) Steele of Fort Pierce, FL; step-son, Dane (Sarah) Vachon of Vero Beach, FL; brothers, Dr. William (Jill) Hood of Fort Pierce, FL and Robin (Maryann) Hood of Fort Pierce, FL; grandchildren, Zoey Mae Beebe, Emerson Rose Beebe, Cannon Christopher, Sunny Michele, Finn Alan, Hannah Jane, Mallory Ann, and Walker John Steele.

The family will hold a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday,  November 1, 2023 at Haisley Funeral home , 3015 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce, Fl 34947. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Anastasia Catholic Church, 407 South 33rd Street, Fort Pierce, Fl 34947, on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 10:00 AM.  Burial will take place at White City Cemetery.  Friends and family are encouraged to remember her with wonderful memories, fun stories, and lots of laughter for the love and joy she brought to so many.
