Edward Ames Lewis, Sr.

October 27, 1920 — January 7, 2009

Edward Ames “Red” Lewis, Sr., 88, died January 7, 2009 in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

Mr. Lewis was born in Sebring, Florida and moved to Ft. Pierce in 1937 from Sebring.

He was an instructor for Aircraft Maintenance for U.S. Air Force during WWII and participated in the Manhattan Project. Ed owned and operated Hickman’s Brake and Alignment in Fort Pierce. He also founded a model airplane club for the local youth in the 1950’s, and was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his sons, Raymond E. Lewis of Chester, SC, Edward A. Lewis, Jr. of Ft. Pierce, FL, Charles L. Lewis of Ft. Pierce, FL and Thomas D. Lewis of Ft. Pierce, FL; daughter, April Lynn Williams of Horse Branch, KY; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Loudermilk Lewis, second wife, Ernestine Tucker Lewis, and third wife, Ruby Pierce Lewis, and 2 grandsons David Scott and Christopher Thomas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.

Services: Visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, 2009 from 5-8 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. A service will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at White City Cemetery.
