He was born in Schuyler, Nebraska and moved to Ft. Pierce in 1983 coming from Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
Dr. Houfek was a medical doctor. He was an avid sailor and served in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his daughters, Laura Bendfelt of Boynton Beach, FL and Susan Aldrich of Vero Beach, FL; sons, Edward Houfek of Tampa, FL, Robert Houfek of Boca Raton, FL and Captain John Houfek of Newport, Rhode Island; and 7 grandchildren.
