Edward Lee Smith, 79, of Fort Pierce, Florida passed away at his home on Monday, February 28, 2022.
Edward was born December 23, 1942 in Harrisville, West Virginia to Carroll Fordham and Margaret (Robinson) Smith. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, working outside, gardening, hunting and fishing, and was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association of America. He also planted and ran a Christmas Tree Farm on the land he grew up on in Harrisville. He loved English Springer Spaniels and over the years his dogs were never far from his side. After graduating from Harrisville High School, he completed undergraduate and a Masters Degree at West Virginia University and additional course work at The Ohio State University. He retired from The Ohio State University Extension as Assistant Professor and District Specialist, Natural Resources East District and was awarded Assistant Professor Emeritus in Ohio State University Extension March 1, 2002. He was Rotary Club President in Cambridge, Ohio from 1985-1986, received the Ohio Forestry Association, Inc. award in 1999 for outstanding individual in conservation education and was granted the Ohio Division of Wildlife Award for distinguished service in conservation of Ohio’s wildlife resources on February 1, 2002.
Edward is survived by his son, Todd Edward Smith, previous spouse, Ann K. Smith, grandchildren Nicholas Chalos, Kathleen Grace Chalos, Jackson Chalos, sister Carolyn (Smith) Clousson, her husband Jerry Clousson, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert Smith and Gene Smith, and daughter, Ann Margaret (Smith) Chalos.
