Elaine Ridgway
August 28, 1933 – October 23, 2014
Elaine Ridgway of Ft. Pierce passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Thursday, October 23, 2014. A gifted homemaker and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, Nana and Baba, Elaine loved her dogs, growing roses, shopping and Santa Claus. But, her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her family.
Elaine was born in Nashua, NH on August 28, 1933. As a young girl her family moved to LaRue, Ohio where she grew up. The homecoming queen and sweetheart of LaRue High School wed her life-long love, Richard “Dick” Ridgway on January 10, 1951 when she was just 17. They were married for 58 years before Richard’s passing in 2009.
Elaine worked to put her husband through graphic design school in Cleveland and Cincinnati, and continued to support his 50-year advertising career which led them to Mansfield, OH. There they raised three, strong, independent daughters before relocating to Ft. Pierce, FL in 1977.
Elaine is survived by daughters Pamela Pursley, of Ooltewah, TN (Jeff); Stephanie Wickett of Ft. Pierce, FL; and Tricia Kapustka (Steve) of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren Hether Fedullo (Joe) of Davisburg, MI; Jennifer Payamps (Akirsy) of Orlando, FL; Christopher Wickett (Stacey) of Ft. Pierce, FL; Natalie Sims of Newberry, FL; and Steven Kapustka, Jr., (Erin) of Jacksonville, FL; great-grandchildren, Sydney Wickett, Isaac Wickett, Lilah Payamps, Brayden Payamps, Anniston Sims, Christian Sims, and Audrey Kapustka.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Ridgway, her parents Clifford and Frances Thompson, her sister Delores Landon and her son-in-law Michael Wickett.
A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Elaine’s memory to Treasure Coast Hospice 1201 SE Indian St., Stuart, FL 34997
