Erwin Samuel Huber

Erwin S. Huber, 95, passed away on July 1, 2010 in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

Mr. Huber was born in Portage, Wisconsin on March 12, 1915. He came to Melbourne in the early 30’s and graduated from Melbourne High in 1936.

In 1938 he was the youngest A&P grocery store manager in the state of Florida before moving to Ft. Pierce in 1947 with his family. He became the manager of the lunch counter at Fulmer’s Drug Store on 2nd Street for 10 years. In 1957 he opened Huber’s Coffee Shop and operated that with his wife Kitty for 19 years before retiring in 1976.

After retirement, he and his wife traveled around the U.S. for about 12 years camping in various campgrounds, some of which they were camp hosts attendants. He also liked to carve and fish.

The Huber family along with C.L. Hilson, were the first members of Community United Methodist Church on July 25, 1948. He was active in the church for over 50 years and held every office in the church except Secretary and Treasurer. He was a youth leader for over 30 years, served as local and district Lay Leader, 55 Plus Club President several times, President of the Men’s Club and sang in the choir for over 50 years.

He was also a Scout Master and committee member for over 25 years with Troop 475. In addition, he was a 55 year member of Masonic Lodge #87 and Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Mason’s.

Mr. Huber was preceded in death by his wife, Kitty, son, Jimmy and brother, Clyde.

He is survived by his son, Richard and daughter-in-law, Glenda; grandchildren, Chris and his girlfriend Hollie, Jeffrey and his wife Julie, and Jonathan and his wife Patty; step-grandchildren, Chris Hardie and his wife Patty and Kendra DeSimone; 2 great-granddaughters; Kathryn and Aaliyah and 6 step-great-grandchildren; Frank, Emma, Alina, Grace, Sierra, and Gabie. Chris, Jeffrey and Jonathan's mother and step-father, Barbara Huber-Spitzer and Mike Spitzer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community United Methodist Church,3114 Okeechobee Rd., Ft. Pierce, Florida 34947, a place Mr. Huber worshiped and loved for many years.

Services: Visitation will be held on Monday, July 5, 2010 from 5-8 PM at Haisley Funeral Home with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM. A service will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Community United Methodist Church, 3114 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34947. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM at Melbourne Cemetery in Melbourne, Florida.
