Esther L. (Lorraine) Young was born April 8, 1928 and passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, and presence of her dear husband of 61 years, on July 7, 2022.
She was born in Paris, Illinois, attended Henning High School, and married Herman Frances Young June 3, 1945. Their three children were born in Danville, Illinois where the family resided until 1968 when they re-located to Fort Pierce. After a brief return to Illinois they returned to Fort Pierce in 1978 where she resided until her graduation to heaven.
Lorraine was employed at Windbreaker Jacket factory and Walgreen Accounting while in Danville, helped manage South Plaza Shell in Fort Pierce, and cooked and substitute taught at Faith Baptist School in Fort Pierce for many years. She was saved October 6, 1974 and became a member of Faith Baptist Church in Danville, Illinois upon her baptism in 1974. She and her husband were faithful soul winners and members of Faith Baptist Church in Fort Pierce from 1978 to 2008, and Riverview Baptist from 2008 to present, though unable to attend since 2020 due to health issues. Survivors include her brother Arthur Riley, son Herman E. (Gene) Young, daughter Debra Sue (Kerry) Burke, 9 loving grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents Lelia and Jennings Riley, husband Herman Frances Young, siblings John, Evelyn, Belle, Juanita and Elaine, daughter Linda Kay Young, and grandson Ronnie Seilhymer.
Her interests included gardening, sewing, and baking. She was especially talented in baking and decorating cakes for weddings, graduations, and anniversaries. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice in honor of the great care they gave to both Herman and Lorraine, to which the family is extremely thankful.
Services: Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 from 10-11 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce. Burial will follow at White City Cemetery.
