Born on Tuesday, June 22, 1937 in Bronx, New York, he resided most of his life in Lake Ronkonkoma, New York. Fred spent the last 25 plus years in Port Saint Lucie, Florida.
Fred was a proud United States Veteran; he served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1961 and toured overseas in Korea. His passion for the great outdoors was tremendous. He was a skilled hunter and a remarkable fisherman. Fred, a talented tradesman, was blessed with a wide range of skills, known by many as a “jack of all trades.” Fred was a true craftsman, a self made man, an entrepreneur, business owner and operator of a sporting goods/ bait and tackle shop for years, as well as an electrician and handyman.
Fred grew up as an older brother and a lifelong friend to Ralph Kruse, who shared many of the same hobbies and morals. Fred was responsible for raising a beautiful, loving daughter with an unworldly heart, Koren Ann. Fred welcomed his amazing daughter in law, Jacqueline Manchisi, into the family taking her with the family on many outdoor adventures. He also raised and passed on his traits and qualities of balancing being a sportsman, craftsman and most importantly a gentleman to two generations, three men; son, Karl Kruse and grandsons, Kyle and Tyler Engelmann. He leaves behind an uncountable number of loving extended family members and amazing friends. Fred had several nicknames, but most commonly; “Gramps,” “Pops,” and “Captain Seaweed.”
