Freddie Lewis Humphries passed away on March 22, 2024, at the age of 82, at his home in Ft. Pierce, Florida. He was a native Floridian with a lifelong respect for Old Florida history and its pioneers. Whether boating, fishing, hunting, building mud buggies or cowboying, he always shared his love of Florida and its natural wonders.
Fred was born in Ft. Myers, Florida, to Alfred Humphries and Aquilla Johnson Humphries. He learned to love and care for the land from his family, as they lived off the land, hunted, fished and worked it with their hands. After high school Fred joined the Army, serving in the U.S Paratroopers Signal Corp. Following his service he worked for Southern Bell, was the original owner of both The Hayloft western wear store in Ft. Myers and the Fair Store in Okeechobee; and has long been the steward of the Circle I Ranch in Ft. Pierce.
He was a proud father and grandfather, whose ready smile and hearty embrace of life never failed to charm.
Fred is survived by his son Mark Humphries of Naples, FL.; son Charles Stewart and wife Cheryl of Maryville, TN.; daughter April Hall and husband Thomas of Boston, MA.; daughter Houston Rigel of Ft. Pierce, FL.; grandchildren Courtney Humphries of Naples, FL., Forest Hall of Boston, MA., Kayla Rigel of Stuart, FL., Jaxson Humphries of Ft. Pierce, FL., and Brayden Rigel of Stuart, FL.; his sisters Jeanette Daniels of Naples, FL.; Carroll Derks, of The Netherlands; Jeri Langman of Ormond Beach, FL.; and first wife Jean Humphries of Naples, FL.
He is preceded in death by his wife Joanne Carlton Humphries of Ft. Pierce, FL.; son Clayton Humphries of Ft. Pierce, FL.; sister Sarah Blakley of Freeport, FL.; and brothers Chester Humphries of Ft. Myers, FL., and Dennis Humphries of Old Town, FL.
Visitation will be at the Haisley Funeral Home, 3015 Okeechobee Rd., Fort Pierce, FL., on Friday April 5, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral services will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 210 S. Indian River Dr., Ft. Pierce, FL., on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.
